How Can Relationship Counselling Help?

We are always in a relationship, whether it’s with our partner, family, friends, work colleagues or others. Basically, we are sociable beings and being able to have positive relationships can change the quality of our life. Counselling can assist you to understand the important factors which cause relationship problems. Over time, each person will develop particular ways to relate to others which will be specific to that individual. This uniqueness, unfortunately, can be the source of disagreements which I find stems primarily from communication.

Close romantic relationships have their own specific problems. All couples, whether same-sex or not, after a period of time together, develop what I call ‘solid behaviours’ which are ways to deal or think about their partner and their relationship, that have become fixed and inflexible. These behaviours will cause friction, as a relationship is like a dance; the more flexible, free and light, the easier it will flow.

I see my role as a facilitator of this relationship flow. It usually starts with small learning curves. Initially this is most likely to be how a couple is currently dealing with their issues by acknowledging what is working and consequently this will facilitate the changes needed to help the relationship move forward. I strongly believe that a couple can fall out of love but re-find the love once again as long there is commitment and interest from both partners.
